The Patient Safety Education Program for Residents is a year-long program that includes 12 educational sessions delivered monthly. The curriculum explores all the factors that contribute to adverse events for patients, including poor communication, human factors, system and process errors, hierarchy, transitions of care, equipment design failure, and lack of practice-based learning and improvement.

We train residents in the techniques of root cause analysis, failure modes and effect analysis, and high reliability interventions that translate into system change.

Throughout the year we feature guest speakers that include patient safety leaders from around the nation, patients and families who have been impacted by medical error, and local physicians and residents who share their stories of the personal impact of adverse events.
